About the Columbia River Chapter
AISES maintains a comprehensive communication network among American Indian Tribes and leaders, schools, colleges, agencies, organizations, and educational professionals: both American Indian/Alaskan Natives and non-American Indians/Alaskan Natives.
Locally, the Columbia River Professional Chapter in Eastern Washington supports the national AISES mission by:
- Educate the public about American Indian capabilities in science and other technical areas
- Promoting communications among AISES members
- Nominating and support individuals for AISES Board of Directors and other AISES awards and recognition
- Supporting AISES in other ways recommended or allowed by the national organization
- Providing role models for students and professionals by identifying community contributions of American Indian scientists and engineers
- Providing support/mentorship for students as they progress from student to professional status
- Provide networking resources:
- establish community relations
- share job opportunities
- provide student scholarships
- encourage Sequoia Fellowships
- maintain a speakers bureau for conferences for high school and college functions
- provide science fair judges
- support educational partnerships
- encourage participation in other technical societies
